Annual Appeal Letter Jan 2008

Companies that Match your Gift 2007-2008

The SJS Annual Appeal:

Saint Joseph School’s Annual Appeal is an integral component of our overall budget and largest source of income after tuition. Gifts to the Annual Appeal provide the financial resources that enable SJS to maintain and expand our exceptional curriculum, implement new programs, hire and support our talented faculty and staff, offer tuition assistance, improve our facilities and stay on the leading edge of advances in educational technology.

Your contribution to the Annual Appeal demonstrates your commitment to the value of Catholic education and helps Saint Joseph School provide our students with:

  • an accredited educational experience with high academic standards
  • an environment fostering tolerance, respect and courtesy, and
  • a sound, value-based educational and social experience.

2005/06 Annual Appeal:

The 2005/06 Annual Appeal yielded a total of $9,582.50 to help SJS meet the operating costs of educating our children.

2006/07 Annual Appeal:

The 2006/07 Annual Appeal yielded a total of $18,491 to help SJS meet the operating costs of educating our children.

2007-08 Annual Appeal:

The 2007-08 Annual Appeal is currently underway. We’ve asked for 100% participation on the part of our alumni, families and friends as we celebrate our 100th Graduating Class.

With the increased costs involved in operating and maintaining SJS as a viable educational institution, and three months to go in our academic year, our goal is to double last years figures. Please help us achieve our goal. If you have already donated to the 07/08 Annual Appeal, we are sincerely grateful. Every gift, large or small, is a welcome blessing. If you have not yet done so, please return your contribution in the enclosed reply envelope.

Memorial Giving

Memorial Donations:

A Memorial Donation to Saint Joseph School is a thoughtful, caring way to remember a special person. Gifts can be made in honor or memory of a loved one. Families of deceased being memorialized or of honorees will be notified of the donors who have contributed. All Memorial gifts are allocated to the annual fund unless otherwise designated. Please send your gifts to: Principal Mark Monnerat, Interim Director of Development, Saint Joseph School, 335 Center Street, Bristol, CT 06010. Phone: 860.582.8696.

Memorial Shrine:

The Saint Joseph Memorial Shrine, located behind Saint Joseph Church, provides an opportunity to honor a loved one with a personalized Brick Paver. The values and lessons they have imparted are permanent – our Brick Pavers are too. Our 8x8 Brick Pavers allow up to three lines of personalization with a maximum of 13 characters per line, including spaces and punctuation. Pavers are $115.00 each. To order a Brick Paver, please send your information to Principal Mark Monnerat, Interim Director of Development, Saint Joseph School, 335 Center Street, Bristol, CT 06010. Phone: 860.582.8696.

Bequests and Legacies:

Bequests and Legacies; items or sums of money given to Saint Joseph School upon the death of the donor; are a specific type of giving referred to as deferred charitable giving. Bequests can be for general purposes, or designated for a specific purpose.

The most common method of deferred charitable giving is a gift through one's will such as cash, securities, real estate or personal property. It is advisable to discuss your plans with your executor and a professional, such as an Estate Lawyer or Financial Planner, who can advise you of the specifics of leaving Bequests and Legacies and provide you with information on the tax implications of your gifts.

Endowment Fund

An anonymous donor has blessed SJS with a $10,000 donation to help establish an endowment fund to demonstrate that our school intends to serve our community for many years to come. We are seeking a donor to match this initial anonymous investment and in perpetual honor, the SJS Endowment Fund would bear the name of this yet-to-be-found benefactor.

An endowment is a permanent fund that provides stability for the present and security for the future of an organization. The principal is never touched, but the interest and earnings can be used by the charitable organization to meet ongoing expenses, cover capital expenditures or fund special projects and programs; expenditures that cannot be funded in any other manner.

Endowments are alternative options for donors who wish to make large gifts or leave a gift by bequest, since their donation is maintained in perpetuity and not expended for short term operating costs. An Endowment Fund is not easily invaded. Usually, an organization's bylaws make it hard, if not impossible, for the organization to spend Endowment income.
