St. Joseph Home & School Association November 2007 Minutes A general meeting of the St. Joseph H&SA was held Tuesday, November 6, 2007 in the Guild Hall. Principal Mark Monnerat called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. with a prayer. The following announcements were made: - Miss Stellon asks that parents who use the after school program use the doorbell on the right side of the door when picking up your children. Please come to the door for the safety of the children.
- The Alumni Association has been mailed information to keep the alumni informed of what is going on at SJS. The Guardian was recently sent out. The Alumni Association recently mailed out information regarding the annual appeal to alumni, friends, grandparents. The association would like to send the appeal forms to current SJS parents as well. Please look it over and consider a donation. Donations are tax deductible.
- Thank you to all who attended the Paulette Theriault Dinner Dance. Approximately $1500 was raised to go into the scholarship fund. Thank to the Theriault family for their dedication.
- Mrs. Nappi has started the envelope system for communications. Please send in all notices for groups and meetings by Friday so they can be packed and sent out on Tuesday.
- Tuesday 11/13 will be Senior Lunch. If interested in volunteering, contact Mr. Monnerat or Lynn Brewer.
- Next week on the 14th and 15th are Parent-Teacher conferences. Please try to be on time. Dismissal on these days will be at 12:30 with bus transportation.
- The Christmas Concert will be Monday, 12/10/07 at 6:00 p.m. in the church.
- BINGO turnout has been good. Please encourage people to play. Thanks to all who signed up to work.
- Grandparents and Special Friends Day will be the Wed. before Thanksgiving. The room reps will be contacting parents for refreshments.
- SJS has been asked to participate in the Catholic Schools Week mass at the cathedral. If interested in attending, contact Mr. Monnerat.
- At the next Home & School meeting on 12/3, Mr. John Caitlin, head of the Catholic Federation of Parents will speak. Please try to attend this meeting. One of the topics he will cover is tax credit.
- Please remind your children to focus on their schoolwork.
- In December, Mr. Monnerat will address a study skill program with teachers and parents.
- FREE DRESS for children of parents who attended tonight’s meeting will be 11/7/07.
- The Kindergarten class had a special visitor today. Scot Haney came and spoke to the children about weather.
Shawna Rogers was next to speak. She thanked all who donated items to the auction, those who took out ads, and all who have been helping. She explained how the class baskets were done differently this year. The room reps asked for parent contributions for the baskets, which have worked well. Unfortunately, there were some miscommunications about free dress, and this will be rectified. She also explained how the auction book will go home next week to anyone who purchased a ticket. This way, you can review what you would like to bid on ahead of time. If you purchase tickets by this Friday, you will get your book on Tuesday. If you buy tickets at the door, you will get your book at the door. If you buy your tickets Tuesday through Friday next week, you will get your book at the door. Friday 11/16/07—students can have FREE DRESS for $1 as long as they dress in baseball attire. The Auction Committee is still looking for volunteers to help out Wed. night after BINGO to break down tables and put them away. Volunteers are also needed to help set up on Thursday and Friday. Sign up sheets are in the back of the room after the meeting. Pete Roberge made the following announcements: - The Harley Raffle is moving forward. The H&SA is currently deciding what bike to purchase.
- Ron Tessman will head the Sports Booster Club. Forms are available after the meeting.
- The Book Fair will be open after the meeting in the old 2nd grade room.
- SCRIP—In Sept. we made $1800; October we made $2300. Total profit from May 1st to October 31st is $8447.00. The holidays are coming, please plan to buy scrip ahead of time. The on-hand stock has increased. It includes all fast food restaurants, Penneys, Kohls, TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Walmart, Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks, grocery & gas cards. For the holidays, we will include Macy’s, Olive garden, Rain Forest Café, and Toys R Us. Scrip will be sold every Thursday morning at school, and orders will be placed once a week. Orders go in on Friday and will come home on the following Thursday. Scrip is always on sale at Southside Meat Market. Next week each family will receive an updated accounting of their Scrip points.
Tom Rokosa announce that forms for the Ski Club were sent out to see who is interested. Now forms for actual sign up and payment have been sent out. Payment is due by November 27. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:45. Respectfully submitted, Lori Hvozdovic
